🆕 What changed in EPS in 2026?

From 17 September 2026, the EPFO wage ceiling for mandatory coverage rose from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 per month (Ministry of Labour notification S.O. 5109(E)). Pension contributions for service from that date are computed on wages up to ₹25,000, and the employer's maximum EPS contribution rises from ₹1,250 to ₹2,083 a month (8.33% of the ceiling).
Your past service is not automatically recalculated at ₹25,000. Under the Employees' Pension Scheme, 2026 (notified 29 June 2026), pension is computed proportionally for each period during which a wage ceiling operated, on the average of the last 60 months' wages. The formula, the 2-year bonus for 20+ years, the ₹1,000 minimum and the 4% early/deferred adjustment are carried over unchanged.
Automatic enrolment (amendment of 25 Sep 2026, effective 17 Sep 2026): existing EPF members who were not in EPS and whose wages on 17 Sep 2026 were ₹25,000 or less are now brought into EPS, with pension contributions from 17 Sep 2026. If this is you, only service from that date is pensionable service — enter it in the last service box. Those earning above ₹25,000 on that date stay outside automatic enrolment but can enrol through their employer.
Other EPS 2026 points: members who leave with under 10 years of eligible service can take a withdrawal benefit, now payable after a 36-month waiting period, or a Scheme Certificate to carry service forward. Pension claims are to be settled within 20 days of a complete application.

Worked example: service across three ceiling periods

Average Basic + DA ₹30,000 · 5 years before Sep 2014, 20 years from Sep 2014 to 16 Sep 2026, and 3 projected years after 17 Sep 2026 · pension starts at 58.

Ceiling periodYears × wagesPension (÷ 70)
Before 1 Sep 20145 × ₹6,500₹464
1 Sep 2014 – 16 Sep 202620 × ₹15,000₹4,286
From 17 Sep 2026 (3 yrs + 2 weightage)5 × ₹25,000₹1,786
Monthly pension at 58₹6,536

Each period is worked out on its own ceiling and the results are added; the 2-year weightage (28 years ≥ 20) is added to the latest period. If all 30 years were wrongly counted at ₹25,000 the figure would be ₹10,714. Each year of service before 17 Sep 2026 adds up to ₹214 a month (₹15,000 ÷ 70); each year after adds up to ₹357 (₹25,000 ÷ 70). Early pension does not get the weightage.

This is an estimate using a service-weighted average of the ceilings. EPFO calculates your actual pension from its contribution and service records.

How to use this calculator & FAQs

  1. Enter your average monthly Basic + DA over the last 60 months before you leave.
  2. Split your EPS service across the three wage-ceiling periods (your EPFO passbook shows the history).
  3. Pick the age your pension starts: 50–57 early, 58 superannuation, 59–60 deferred.
  4. Read the pension for each period and the total. EPFO's own figure decides.

How is EPS pension calculated after the ₹25,000 ceiling?
Wages × service ÷ 70, worked out separately for each wage-ceiling period with wages capped at that period's ceiling, then added up. Only service from 17 Sep 2026 counts at ₹25,000, so the new ceiling does not raise the pension on past service.

What are pensionable wages?
The average of the last 60 months of Basic + DA, capped at the ceiling for each period. Where the 60 months include periods without contributions, the wages are averaged over the days actually paid.

How many years do I need?
10 years of eligible service. With 20 or more years at superannuation, 2 years of weightage are added. With less than 10 years you get a withdrawal benefit or a scheme certificate.

Early or deferred pension?
Early pension is allowed from age 50 and is cut 4% for every year short of 58, without the 2-year weightage. You can defer to 60 and get 4% more for each completed year.

Minimum pension?
₹1,000 a month, applied before the early-pension reduction, so an early pension can come to less than ₹1,000. Commutation or return of capital taken earlier under EPS 1995 can reduce it further.

Not modelled: service before 16 Nov 1995, commutation/return of capital, and the exact withdrawal benefit table. The ₹6,500 pre-2014 ceiling and age 58 are EPS 1995 figures that EPS 2026 does not restate. Last updated: 4 October 2026.
