Today, I will tell you the process of advance PF withdrawal through the online EPFO portal. Yes, you read it right. Now you can withdraw up to 100% of your PF amount as an advance.

Here Advance means you can withdraw the PF while you are still on the job and your provident fund is still being deducted on a monthly basis.

Withdraw up to 100% of the PF balance within few days once you have submitted your application online on the EPFO portal.

Here 100% means, Employee + Employer share + Earned Interest.

Guideline for Advance PF Withdrawal

Advance PF withdrawal is only allowed under certain criteria such as:

  • Purchase of home
  • Repayment of home loan
  • Medical emergency
  • Wedding of self/siblings/child

One can withdraw the PF amount for purchasing the home or renovation of the home. Below are the criteria for availing the advance PF withdrawal facility.

  • Completion of 5 years of service is mandatory
  • Withdrawal of 24 months’ pay (Basic + DA) for the purchase of a plot
  • Withdrawal of 36 months’ pay (Basic + DA) for the purchase of house/flat/construction or total cost, whichever is lower
  • Withdrawal allowed only once during the service period

Repayment of Home Loan

Another reason when you can withdraw advance PF is for repayment of home loan. Remember that this is a very special case when you are allowed to withdraw your PF amount for this reason.

Chances are there that your claim may get rejected under this reason if the PF officer can’t find your justification is strong enough for withdrawal.

  • The minimum service period is 10 years
  • You need to produce the home loan balance certificate as proof of your liability
  • A maximum of 36 months pay or total outstanding whichever is lesser can be withdrawn.

Medical Treatment

To help you financially during the tough time when there is any medical emergency, you can withdraw advance PF amount as per the below criteria.

  • Provide doctor’s certificate
  • Provide employer’s certificate
  • No minimum service period is required
  • You can withdraw 6 month’s pay OR employee share + interest whichever is lesser

Wedding of Self/sibling/child

To meet the wedding expenses, you can withdraw advance PF as per the below criteria.

  • Member can withdraw a maximum of 50% of the employee’s share + interest
  • Members can withdraw for this purpose for a maximum of three times during the service period.
  • Withdrawal can only be allowed after the completion of 7 years of PF contribution.

Higher Studies

For the higher studies of self or the child, the member can withdraw the advance PF as per the below criteria.

  • Member can withdraw a maximum of 50% of the employee’s share + interest
  • Members can withdraw for this purpose for a maximum of three times during the service period.
  • Withdrawal can only be allowed after the completion of 7 years of PF contribution.

Now as you have a fair idea about the withdrawal criteria, let’s check up the step-by-step process of advance PF withdrawal online. This is the easiest and fastest way to get the PF withdrawal.

  • Visit the official EPFO portal
  • On the right-hand side, enter your UAN number and password to log in
  • Once you are logged in, you can check all your basic details on the homepage.
  • Please ensure that your Aadhaar number, PAN number, and Bank details are up to date.
  • Go to the “Online Services” tab
  • You can see 4 different forms there
  • Select the first one Form 31
  • Check your basic details on the screen.
  • Fill in the last 4 digits of your account number
  • Click the “Verify” button
Advance PF Withdrawal
  • Click on the “Yes” button of the terms and conditions.
  • Once you click on the terms and conditions, there will be a green tick beside your bank account number. This means that your bank account number is verified.
  • Check your current employer details at the bottom.
  • Click on “Proceed for online claim” to proceed further.
  • Select the PF Advance option from the drop-down list.
  • Select the purpose of the advance PF withdrawal.
  • There are few options available in red color, those are not applicable to you as they are not falling under your criteria.
  • Select the purpose from the list above the red color.
  • Enter the advance PF withdrawal amount
  • Enter your address as per Aadhaar card
  • Upload the cheque or passbook copy
  • Click on the checkbox for Aadhaar authentication at the bottom of the page.
  • Click on the get Aadhaar OTP.
  • Validate the received OTP.
  • Click on the verify and submit claim.
  • That’s it. Your advance PF claim is successfully submitted.

You can go to the “Online Services” tab and click on the third option “Track claim status” to check the status of your claim.
